10/26/19

Third night in a row in San Antonio, BUT first there is a party in San Marcos and Bigfoot was playing it.

It was a pretty cool affair. Out on a ranch that had a real stage and food and BEER!!

We were kinda terrible. We aren’t good at playing tunes longer to fill time. It’s a huge flaw in that band and a skill we should learn. Not sure we will...

Then the Harvey band played at Francis Bogside. I’d never been here before but it’s a really cool joint and our set was pretty damn good. Felt nice to have a good one after the earlier one.

7/6/19

Hickoids played a party the other night out in Walnut Creek. A tiny little town about two and a half hours northwest of Austin. Two thirds of the drive was on two lane state roads through other small towns. I really like this kind of drive even if you can only drive slow at times.

We were at the Rattlesnake Ballroom, a nice joint that has the bands play above the bar on an elevated stage... my paranoid ass was scared of a slip and fall every time I went up or down those stairs. Fortunately I didn’t pull any bonehead moves and stayed on both feet.

Mikey Mumbles (or Mumbles Mike) was the guest of honor. They had a nice spread of bbq a couple of doors down for the carnivores in attendance. It was potato salad sandwiches and pasta salads for the veg”s in the house. Not the best but better than a candy bar from the connivence store.

We played two decent sets. With the stage up like this you are so far from everyone and it’s really hard to make a connection with the crowd. We did our best but it still felt weird. They had a wireless mic so Smitty got to get out and mingle a bit, so there was a little bit of a connector there.

After it was the lonely two and a half hour drive home being paranoid about deer jumping out at me. I saw a dozen on the side of the road but they all stayed where they were, thank god.

5/28/16

As expected Kansas City was great.

This little tour was put together because the Westport Roots Festival wanted us to play. We rolled up and got set up with wristbands and gift bags and hung out in the green room for a while. It smelled great when we opened the door. When we got upstairs, where the party was, it was good and smokey and it states that way all night. My people!

They fed us, they beered us and liquored us up real good. Too good! After the set I was given a fifth of Four Roses Bourbon. I'll get to that in a minute.

Our set was at the firefly, we were second to last and we had a solid crowd that was really in to us. Lots of people jumping around like fools and singing along.... We all agreed, it made up for Tulsa.

Back to that fifth. I didn't have a way to carry it around and I burdened Cody with my dilemma. Being the country gentleman he is he stashed it in his coat. Then he took off and we lost him for an hour. Eventually we found him well lubricated with two-thirds of the liquor left. He was missing the cap but the booze made it!

Dallas tomorrow.
