I did a little studio session with The Gay Sportscasters today. We recorded five songs in Cris Burns place, Summit Recording.
As usual Mr Burns was great (I mean how many grammy winners do YOU work with?) he is tweaky enough to make it sound great and stays out of the way when needed.
A perfect combo for an engineer.
Breakdown
Burns had me play through a preamp he built cascaded in to a GK head in to some kind of cabinet I never saw (It was in a big wooden box). So there was a mic on the cab and a direct from the pre. Fat and pretty
He put a second pair of mics on the drum kit (in addition to the overheads). These were ribbon mics and he put them on either side, that man knows what he's doing.
